Before making the big cut, consider donating your hair. There are various organizations that accept all types of hair, from colored to curly to virgin. We here at Twig have been doing a fair share of donation cuts in the last year and are more than happy to help you find an organization that meets your hair needs. Here is our latest do-gooder, Emily Yun along with some requirements and benefits of a few choice companies. Wigs for kids

Benefits: Children who have lost hair as a result of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, alopecia, burns, or other medical circumstances

Donation Guidelines

  • Hair must be clean and dry.

  • Hair that has been cut and saved is suitable for donations.

  • Minimum length of hair donation is 12+ inches. (Pull curly hair straight to measure.)

  • Gray hair is acceptable, but hair that has been chemically processed - permed, colored or highlighted - is not

Pantene Beautiful Lengths

Benefits: Women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment

Donation Guidelines: 

  • Minimum of 8 inches long

  • Wavy/curly hair texture is fine-you may straighten hair to measure

  • Hair should be freshly washed and completely dry, without any styling products

  • Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated

  • Hair may not be more than 5 percent gray

Locks of Love

Benefits: Financially disadvantaged children 18 and younger with medical hair loss

Donation Guidelines:

  • Hair must be at least 10 inches (preferably 12") in length

  • Hair must be free of bleach. Colored hair and permed is acceptable.

  • Hair must be clean and dry

  • Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.

  • Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist.

  • Cannot accept dreadlocks. Also cannot accept wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair.

  • Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.

  • Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.

  • Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.

Here at Twig, we have a strong relationship with education. In fact, we love it so much that we have our very own in-house education system. From the hours of nine to noon, every Tuesday, you can catch a glimpse of us playing student and it's all for you! 

Today, us twiggies learned the latest on balyage techniques that we are eager to put to use! Don't know what balyage is? Let us enlighten you, balayage is a hair coloring technique which is designed to create very natural-looking highlights which grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root. It allows us designers to have more creative freedom in our application while keeping the look natural and soft. All though, balyage is not too new of a technique for most of us, we do like to keep our minds fresh and open to new tricks.

Many of you may have noticed that our newest concierge,Michelle, hasn't been around lately, and for good reason.

"Michelle's daughter Breea Renee woke up on December 8th feeling "clumbsy". By noon she was tired and went home from school to take a nap. By 5 pm she called her mom and said, "I am coming to get you from work early. Something is wrong." By 6:30 she was in the emergency room with little feeling in her left arm and leg. By 9pm she was paralyzed on her left side, blind in her left eye, and losing her ability to talk and swallow. Tests revealed she has acute sudden onset of MS, or Clinically Isolated Syndrome. 

Breea was not responding to steroid treament quickly enough and began plasma exchange treaments 6 days later. Most recenlty they have discovered a new lesion or extension of the old one spreading into the frontal area of her brain."

Michelle is unable to return to work as she will be caring for Breea full-time until she is back on her feet. Breea is a tough little cookie, and nobody has a doubt that she will get through this.

 

From January 6th until January 21st, TWIG will be accepting donations for Breea. TWIG will match 50% of each donation dropped off at the salon, up to $250. Any financial contribution will will go towards her care, special housing and transportation needs, graduation and college needs, and basic needs.
