Think. Buy. Be Local.

Here at Twig we are all about supporting our local communities, from our jewelry, purses, and even our products, so we invite you to do the same. For the next couple of weeks we will be blogging on the advantages of buying local, and supporting your neighbors around you, in all endeavours of life.

Reason #1- "What goes around comes around." When you put in the time, effort, and money, to buy from local businesses, several studies have shown that more of your money is then used to make purchases from other local businesses. According to a study done in Midcoast, Maine, in 2003, "Three times as much money stays in the local economy when you buy goods and services from locally owned businesses instead of large chain stores, according to this analysis, which tracked the revenue and expenditures of eight locally owned businesses." The survey found that 44.6% of their revenue was spent within two surrounding counties, and another 8.7% spent elsewhere in Maine.

Reason #2- "Investing" Local companies in small town centers require little infrastructure investment, as opposed to huge, chain corporations, and also make better use of local services.

Reason #3- "We support each other" Non-profits acquire 250% more support from smaller, privately owned businesses, in comparison to larger, nationally owned, companies. Now that's something we can get behind!

Stay tuned for 7 more reasons as to why "keeping it local" is what we're all about.
